Sunday Morning

The weight of
countless cells express
their minute dis
eases and complaints
altogether this morning
of heavy waking
after staying up late fighting against sleep
as if it was death itself

Weekends bringing such
freedom such recklessness
but I so love those languid
and late wakings
unchained from alarm
but the body wears down
and rebels
against such luxury

and that weight that solidness
in kidneys aches pains

makes me haul my weight
upright

stretch to drain
stumble to restroom
start this pump of lymph
kick that heart into gear
and stare at my bleary
reflection

yet again
yet again
so good to be alive
