The Princess and the Frog

I love animated films but haven’t been too excited by Disney’s offerings of late. The Princess and the Frog, however, was a pleasant surprise. The story was fresh, engaging and not too syrupy. The music was excellent and had me and (wonder of wonders) the boys clapping along at one point. I loved the Firefly Ray (beautifully voiced by Jim Cummings) with his courage and marvelous Cajun accent. I also enjoyed Mama Odie (voice by Jenifer Lewis) and her song “Dig a Little Deeper” and the villainous Dr. Facilier (voice by Keith David). I will likely buy this one.
Highly recommended.

Enchanted

This 2007 Disney film surprised me. It is a parody of many other Disney films for one thing. I liked the music and the obvious desire to have another Broadway musical from a Disney property didn’t bother me overly much. I did enjoy the roaches though! You just have to love a dancing cockroach! And Pip was great!

Meet the Robinsons

I liked the idea behind Disney’s Meet the Robinsons ever since the first trailer I saw for it. Strangely enough, all the kids were doing their own thing and so Karen and I watched this kid’s animation alone.
We enjoyed it very much. The story moves along quickly with a lot to keep interest from flagging. There were some sappy moments (especially the reuse of the “keep moving forward” part of Disney’s quote I’ve put at the end) but this is a much better film than I expect from the modern Walt Disney syndicate. Some elements are easy to predict but there were some surprises for me and that was fun!
