Being the father of a teenager and one pre-teen, this puts a smile on my face. I know that I went through it too. And then, one day, like a miraculous beam of light from on high, it came to me: how could I think myself so superior? So informed? So smug? There is no reason to think that way at all, especially in our world so full of various expertise. I can’t know it all. I might learn to know a few bits but not very many when it comes down to it.
And you know what? That’s a very liberating thought. It takes the pressure off and I can just live. Cat Steven’s song If You Want To Sing Out, Sing Out comes to mind:
